JAKARTA - A number of officials within the Batam City Government, Riau Islands, have tested positive for COVID-19. So that they cannot focus on carrying out their work in government administration.

"Until now there are several heads of our services who are in self-medication or isolation. Pak Didi (Head of Health) at the hospital, Pak Azril (Head of Communications and Information Technology) is self-isolating," said Deputy Mayor of Batam Amsakar Achmad in Batam, reported by Antara, Friday. , July 16.

In addition to the two service heads, several echelon officials were also declared exposed to the corona virus, including the administration of the leadership.

Even so, the Deputy Mayor ensured that the tasks of administering local government were still running as usual.

"The Head of the Disbursement Office passes his duties to the secretary. Like the health office, or the head of the division distributes it under him. The overall performance of the organization is not a problem," he said.

"But apart from that, we feel that when the need for strengthening human resources is higher, this case will decrease," continued the Deputy Mayor.

He said he was continuing to monitor the health developments of the officials.

Meanwhile, the Batam City, Riau Islands COVID-19 Handling Task Force recorded a total of 17,875 local residents who had tested positive for the Corona Virus, as of Thursday.

The Task Force also recorded a total of 14,584 people who had recovered and 416 people died.

According to the Task Force, the death rate from COVID-19 in Batam is 2.327 percent, the cure rate is 81.589 percent, and the active case rate is 16.084 percent.
