Tangerang Mayor Arief R Wismansyah said the transfer was intended to assist the mobility of the corpse evacuation team, especially COVID-19 patients from hospitals or at home.

"For the evacuation of bodies to the Selapajang TPU, both COVID-19 and non-COVID. So we have added the fleet so that the handling of the bodies is faster," he said, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 15.

The mayor added that currently the Tangerang City Government has as many as nine hearse vehicles under the command of the Housing and Settlement Service (Perkim).

"In addition, three units of operational cars have been converted into hearses. One unit is from Bapenda, one unit is from DPMPTSP and a secretariat car is from the Perkim Office," he said.

Arief stated that all operational cars that were converted as hearses would be sterilized once they have been used, so that they could be reused as public service cars.

"We all hope that the pandemic will pass soon," he said.
