Extended Emergency PPKM Discourse, Ganjar: We Are Ready Whatever Happens

JAKARTA - Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo has prepared several contingency scenarios related to the possible extension of the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) by the central government.

"We are following the developments of each of them, so we have prepared a contingency scenario. Whether it is extended or not, we are ready, whatever happens because the decision is seen from the behavior of the people," he said in Semarang, Wednesday.

According to him, increasing the capacity of hospital beds, looking for oxygen to adding health workers is not a solution to prevent COVID-19 cases from increasing because what can prevent it is to discipline community behavior related to health protocols.

"If everyone is obedient, health protocols are embraced and adhered to tightly, then in fact Emergency PPKM does not need to be extended, but if it can't, the potential for extension is not impossible," he said.

Extended or not, continued Ganjar, Emergency PPKM has its own benefits and risks because if it is not extended, the economy will indeed move, but if people are no longer disciplined, then the risk will be more severe.

"But if you want discipline and this is opened (not extended, ed.), then it will reduce. Is it possible, let's talk to ourselves. Remember, Indonesia was once the country with the highest COVID-19 cases in the world. This is dangerous, we We must fight together and discipline must be carried out," he stressed.

His party will follow whatever the central government's decision later related to Emergency PPKM.

"If it is extended, then the contingency action is to prepare a budget policy for 'backup' handling. I have also asked the UMKM Service to detect what conditions are friends who are trying, what are the impacts, what level of defense will be. What will the rescue program be like? ," he said.
