WHO Urges You Indonesians To Stay At Home To Reduce The Rate Of COVID-19

JAKARTA - Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Indonesia, N Paranietharan asked the Indonesian people to stay at home and limit mobility for the next few weeks, in order to suppress the spread of the COVID-19 delta variant.

"The key message with the spread of the delta variant, it is very important for the public, whether vaccinated or not, to follow health protocols, and more importantly to stay at home as much as possible," said Paranie in a virtual press conference regarding the arrival of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Indonesia, obtained through the COVAX Facility quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 13.

Paranie said the way to fight the rapid spread of the delta variant of COVID-19 is to limit movement over the next few weeks.

"I humbly request that everyone stay at home as much as possible and save everyone, and let us get out of this pandemic as soon as possible," he said.

He also expressed his support and confidence that Indonesia was able to achieve the vaccination target of 20 percent of the population by September 2021, and 50 percent of vaccination coverage by the end of the year.

In addition, Paranie also appreciated the role of Indonesia, especially the leadership of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi as one of the Co-Chairs of the COVAX AMC Engagement Group, in an effort to ensure access to vaccines not only for Indonesia, but also on a global scale in an effort to achieve equal access to vaccines.

"We look forward to continuing this collaboration with Indonesia, to ensure that we vaccinate as many people as possible before the end of this year, so that we can at least see slower transmission, both globally and in Indonesia in particular," he said.

Previously, Indonesia had received 3,476,400 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine made by AstraZeneca, which was obtained through the COVAX Facility multilateral scheme, which arrived on Tuesday.
