COVID-19 Cases Soar In Bali, Isolation Room At Wangaya Hospital Is Overwhelmed By Patients

DENPASAR - The isolation room of the Wangaya Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Denpasar, Bali is already full due to an increase in daily cases of COVID-19.

"Many COVID-19 patients have started arriving and full isolation rooms have had to be treated in the emergency room for a while," said Denpasar City COVID-19 Task Force Spokesperson I Dewa Gede Rai, Monday, July 12.

The full isolation of COVID-19 patients has an impact on the availability of space in the Emergency Room (IGD) and currently the ER at the Wangaya Hospital applies an open-close system. In addition to the isolation room, the ICU for COVID-19 patients at the Wangaya Hospital is also full.

According to the Task Force, the room for COVID-19 patients at the Wangaya Hospital is full, due to the addition of cases in Denpasar City, which an average of 200 more people are confirmed to be positive for COVID-19.

Gede Rai also explained that the full isolation of COVID-19 patients at the Wangaya Hospital did not only happen at this time. In the first week of July, the beds in the isolation room of the Wangaya Hospital were also full and at that time there were 58 beds to treat positive COVID-19 patients.

However, seeing these conditions, the hospital plans to add 35 beds. However, only 10 beds can be realized, because there are still many general patients.

"The plan for 35 (additional) beds has just realized the addition of 10 more beds, so that the total beds are now 68 and they are full," he added.

Then, for now, the emergency room at Wangaya Hospital can no longer accept general patients. So, people who need health services are advised to come to other hospitals such as Sanglah Hospital Denpasar or Bali Mandara Hospital (RSBM) Denpasar.

"Later, when there is an empty bed in the isolation room (Wangaya Hospital), then the patient is transferred so that the ER is opened again," said Dewa Rai.

Meanwhile, from daily case data for COVID-19 in Denpasar City on Sunday, July 11, cumulatively, there were 17,516 positive cases. The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in Denpasar City reached 15,667 people or 89.44 percent.

Meanwhile, 367 people died, or 2.10 percent, and 1,482 people or 8.46 percent were active cases that were still being treated.
