Bima Arya Mayor: The Late Eka Supria Atmaja Has Struggled To Overcome COVID-19 In Bekasi

JAKARTA - Mayor of Bogor, West Java, Bima Arya, expressed his deep condolences for the death of the Regent of Bekasi, Eka Supria Atmaja due to exposure to COVID-19. During his lifetime, the deceased had struggled to overcome the pandemic in Bekasi.

"Innalillahi wainnailahi rojiun. I am sorry for the death of Bang Eka," Bima Arya said when contacted, quoted by Antara, Monday, July 12. Bima Arya also prayed that the late Husnul Khotimah and the bereaved family would be given patience and strength.

Previously, it was reported that the Regent of Bekasi, Eka Supria Atmadja, died at Siloam Hospital, Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, on Sunday, July 11 at around 21:30 WIB.

Eka Supria was previously treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) of Siloam Hospital since Sunday, July 4 because he was positive for COVID-19.

Head of the Bekasi District Health Office, Sri Enny Mainiarti, said that Eka was confirmed positive for COVID-19 after previously undergoing a PCR swab test.

Eka Supria, who was infected with COVID-19 with clinical symptoms due to having comorbidities, was then treated at the Siloam Hospital, Tangerang.

The man who was born in Bekasi on February 9, 1973 is survived by his wife, Holillah, and three children. Eka Supria's educational history is that he lived from elementary to high school in Bekasi Regency, and then studied at Borobudur University, East Jakarta.

While his career history, before becoming the Regent of Bekasi, Eka Supria served as the head of Waluya village, Bekasi Regency for two periods in 2001-2006 and 2006-2012.

In the 2014 legislative elections, Eka Supria became a legislative candidate through the Golkar Party and was elected to the Bekasi Regency DPRD. In the election for the leadership of the Council, Eka Supria was elected as chairman of the Bekasi Regency DPRD for the 2014-2019 period.

Then, in the 2017 Bekasi Regency election, Eka Supria was promoted by his party as a candidate for regent to accompany Neneng Hasanah Yasin.

The pair Neneng Hasanah and Eka Supria who were promoted by a coalition of five parties were elected as regent and deputy regent of Bekasi Regency, for the 2017-2022 period.

However, in 2019, Neneng Hasanah resigned from the position of regent after being caught in a corruption case and there was a permanent decision from the court, so Eka Supria was appointed as regent.
