Joko Tjandra's Desire, Supreme Court Rejects Cassation In Fake Road Letter Case

JAKARTA - The Supreme Court (MA) of the Republic of Indonesia rejected the cassation filed by the defendant Joko Tjandra alias Joko Soegiarto Tjandra in the case of fake travel documents.

Thus, the Supreme Court's decision upheld the decision of the DKI Jakarta High Court which sentenced Joko Tjandra to 2.5 years in prison.

"The verdict rejects the appeal of the public prosecutor and the defendant," said MA spokesman Andi Samsan Nganro when contacted in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Friday, July 9.

As for legal considerations, said the Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court for Judicial Affairs, the defendant was about to return to Jakarta using a chartered plane.

The defendant Joko Soegiarto Tjandra used a travel document in the name of Anita Dewi A Kolopaking which was made by witness Dodi Jaya.

The letter was written on the orders of the former Coordinator of the PPNS Bureau and Supervision of the National Police Headquarters, Brigadier General Prasetijo Utomo. In addition, Joko Tjandra also used a COVID-19 free letter issued by Pusdokes which was managed by Etty Wachyuni, a staff of Prasetijo Utomo.

"Even though the defendant never did a COVID-19-free examination," he said.

The document is incorrect because the address of witness Anita Dewi A Kolopaking and the defendant Joko Soegiarto Tjandra is not at Jalan Trunojoyo number 3 Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

"In addition, the work of witness Anita Dewi A Kolopaking and the defendant is not a consultant to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police," he said.

In its decision, the panel said witnesses Prasetijo Utomo and Anita Dewi A Kolopaking on June 6, 2020 picked up the defendant Djoko Tjandra to Pontianak Supadio Airport and flew to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport by chartered plane.

Then on June 8, 2020 Prasetijo Utomo and Anita Dewi A Kolopaking again took Djoko Tjandra from Halim Perdanakusuma Airport to Pontianak.

On June 16, 2020 the defendant Djoko Tjandra again contacted Anita Dewi A Kolopaking to make the letters back as before and for this submission, Prasetjo Utomo agreed.
