GARUT - The Garut District Court sentenced the shoe factory PT Changsin Reksa Jaya to a fine of Rp. 20 million for violating the emergency PPKM rules. This factory was caught employing 100 percent of employees.

"There is a fine of IDR 20 million, this is the highest fine on record," said Garut Regency COVID-19 Task Force Deputy and Garut District Attorney, Sugeng Hariadi, after monitoring the trial for PPKM violators at Simpang Lima, Garut, quoted by Antara, Thursday, July 8.

Sugeng said that the results of the operation to enforce the Emergency PPKM rules in Garut had found three factories that violated the PPKM by employing all their employees.

Even though according to the rules, he said, during the PPKM Emergency, industrial activities were allowed to operate on condition that 50 percent of their employees were employed to avoid crowds who were worried about the transmission of the COVID-19 outbreak.

"He (the factory) must enter, employ 50 percent of the total number of employees, but in reality the person concerned does not comply," said Sugeng.

He said that there was a violation of the PPKM, so the Garut Covid-19 Task Force followed up by processing the law to carry out minor crimes with different fines.

In addition to the shoe factory which was fined Rp. 20 million, there were also other factories with the same violation that received a verdict from the court with a fine of Rp. 13 million and Rp. 15 million.

"The trial held today, of the six violators who were tried, three of them were three companies that violated the West Java Provincial Regulation Number 5 of 2021 Amendment to the Regional Regulation Number 13/2018 concerning Peace, Public Order, and Community Protection," he said.

Sugeng hopes that decisive action by processing it in court can provide a deterrent effect for other parties to comply with the implementation of Emergency PPKM to prevent and break the chain of transmission of COVID-19.

If the party who has received a guilty verdict again commits a PPKM violation, he said, then the law will be processed again with the threat of a heavier sanction, namely a maximum fine of Rp. 50 million.

"We will continue to monitor and supervise the number of employees who entered, all of whom have listened to the appeal and the judge's decision to comply during PPKM until July 20," he said.

PT Changsin Reksa Jaya Tikno's Legal Manager stated that his party accepted the court's decision and would pay a fine for the case of the Emergency PPKM violation.

"We accept the judge's decision and will pay the fine," he said.
