Student In Bali Sentenced To 6 Months In Prison For Persecution Of Journalists Who Break Up Quarrels

DENPASAR - Student Maria Christine Yuta Nukul (23) was sentenced to six months in prison for allegedly beating a woman who works as a journalist in Bali.

"The defendant was sentenced to six months in prison and was previously sentenced to 10 months in prison," said Denpasar Bali District Court spokesman Gede Astawa quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 6.

Astawa said that for mitigating factors the defendant had never been convicted and admitted frankly his actions.

Meanwhile, the things that burden the defendant's actions are disturbing the community.

In this case, the defendant was found guilty of violating Article 351 Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

Previously, the public prosecutor's indictment explained that the incident took place in early March 2021 when the victim, who works as a journalist, tried to break up an argument between the defendant and the victim's friend's sister.

Initially, the victim named Ayu (30) was asked for help by a friend named Damiaen to pick her up at the scene at around 10.45 WITA. After arriving at the crime scene, the victim also met Damiaen's sister, Alberta.

Furthermore, when the victim was about to return home, seven students came to the scene looking for Alberta and admitted that they had problems that needed to be resolved.

During the process of solving the problem, the defendant and his friends wanted to pull Alberta away to be taken away from the location. Then, the victim tries to give advice so that the problem is resolved properly.

One of the defendant's friends then threw harsh words at the victim. The defendant also tried to attack the victim. The victim was able to avoid the first blow, but the second time the defendant hit the victim, causing injuries to the victim's lips.

The victim was immediately taken to the Bali Mandara Hospital (RSBM) for medical treatment.
