Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution Changes Waste Management At TPA

MEDAN - Medan Mayor, Bobby Nasution, changed the waste management system at the final disposal site. Bobby wants to eliminate the designation of the dirtiest city in 2019 because the management of the TPA (Final Processing Site) in Medan Marelan uses an open system.

"Currently, we are changing the system at the TPA from 'open dumping' to a 'sanitary landfill' (TPA sanitary)", said Bobby Nasution after attending a feasibility study meeting on the use of waste in Medan City with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources ( ESDM) in Medan quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 6.

The Medan City Government is targeting the problem of dealing with waste by changing the system from "open dumping" to "sanitary landfill" by Law No.18/2008, to be completed before 2024.

In addition, Bobby Nasution explained, "sanitary landfill" is waste management by disposing and piling garbage in sunken locations in collaboration with the Deli Serdang Regency Government.

"Alhamdulillah, we already have an area of 16.3 hectares that is ready to be used as a regional landfill in Sumbul Sinembah Village, Tanjung Mulia Hilir and will use the 'sanitary landfill' system", said Bobby.

However, his party asked the relevant OPD leadership to assist the ESDM Ministry's feasibility study by providing open data needed by the research team.

"The data provided will greatly affect the results of the study," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Research and Development Center for Electricity Technology, New Energy, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation, Research and Development Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Haryanto, said this feasibility study was to see the system that would be applied to Medan City waste.

"We hope that the 'output' of the activity can result in a study whether the RDF (Refused Derived Fuel) system is feasible or not to be applied to waste processing", he said.
