For Golkar, Harmoko Is A Role Model For All Cadres

JAKARTA - Chairman of the MPR RI and Deputy Chairperson of the Golkar Party, Bambang Soesatyo, expressed his condolences for the death of the Minister of Information during the Soeharto era, Harmoko. He said Harmoko was a role model for many Golkar cadres.

"Harmoko is a senior politician, teacher and role model for many Golkar Party cadres," said Bamsoet, Bambang Soesatyo's nickname, in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Sunday, July 4.

He said Harmoko, who had served as general chairman of Golkar, had been sick for several years. However, his zest for life was extraordinary.

According to Bamsoet, Harmoko showed this enthusiasm by diligently attending big Golkar events even though he had to sit in a wheelchair.

"The Golkar Party has lost its best son, Harmoko bin Asmoprawiro, who passed away on Sunday, July 4 at 20.22 WIB at the Gatot Soebroto Army Hospital," he said.

Bamsoet recalled that Harmoko had served as Indonesia's Minister of Information during the New Order era and had also been Chair of the MPR during the BJ Habibie administration.

He considered that Harmoko's life journey was extraordinary, for example in the era of Minister of Information, the prices of basic necessities of the people were controlled because they were frequently announced.

In fact, every day is never missed, Harmoko appears on television announcing the prices of people's basic needs such as the price of curly chilies and others to prevent speculators from playing," he said.

Bamsoet said that he and all of the Golkar Party cadres felt sorry for the death of the man born in Patianrowo, Nganjuk, East Java, February 7, 1939.
