JAKARTA - Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) has succeeded in preventing a terror attack by the international terrorist group ISIS, which is banned in Russia.

Citing TASS Friday July 2, the FSB managed to detain ISIS members in Moscow, while a person who resisted being arrested in Astrakhan was paralyzed, according to the FSB Center for Public Relations Thursday July 1.

"Federal security services successfully thwarted preparations for a terrorist attack by members of the international terrorist organization ISIS, which is banned in Russia," the FSB said in a statement.

"On orders from the leader of the terrorist organization, two Russian citizens planned simultaneous attacks on residents of Moscow and the Astrakhan Region with firearms and sword weapons in crowded places," the statement continued.

During the detention attempt in the Astrakhan Region, one of the ISIS members fought back by opening fire, the FSB said.

"The FSB special forces returned fire. The terrorists were neutralized. Other cell members were detained in Moscow. Neither security service personnel nor civilians were injured," the FSB said.

The Federal Security Service also conducted searches and investigations at the residences of ISIS members. Automatic rifles, ammunition, F-1 hand grenades to extremist literature were seized by the FSB.

Russian security authorities later opened a criminal case on charges of participation in the activities of a terrorist organization.
