Metro Jaya Police Chief: Those Who Like To Ride Bicycles Stop First, If They Are Desperate To Be Caged

JAKARTA - Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Fadil Imran, has issued an ultimatum for cyclists to stop cycling on the highway during the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM). If found stubborn, bicycles belonging to the cyclists will be 'caged'.

"I remind those who like to ride bicycles that they have stopped riding bicycles, I will cage them later during the Emergency PPKM if they dare to ride a bicycle", said Inspector General Fadil to reporters, Friday, July 2.

He emphasized that the police will not indiscriminately take action against anyone who persists in stubbornly cycling on the highway during the Emergency PPKM period. For him, people's lives are more important than facilitating naughty cyclists.

Seizing a bicycle that violates the law can mean saving many people. Because people in public areas can catch COVID-19 and spread it.

"I'm helping his soul, I should secure the bicycle than if the person is exposed to COVID-19 or he spreads COVID-19", said Inspector General Fadil

Previously, the Governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, asked the residents of the capital city to no longer exercise in public places. The request relates to the Implementation of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

"Saturday, Sunday, Jakartans usually exercise, please continue to exercise at home, in the complex but don't go out, whether you're cycling, running, or walking. Don't do it on the road, do it at home and in complexes", said Anies.

Anies also highlighted the habit of the people of Jakarta who often cycled. Later, when the Emergency PPKM policy is implemented, no one will be allowed to cycle on the streets of the capital city.

If later there are stubborn people, strict sanctions will be given. Officers will confiscate the bike of the offender.

"Including cyclists, we will enforce them, if they violate, they will be transported with their bicycles", said Anies.
