Death Of COVID-19 Patients Rises, Surabaya City Government Produces 100 Coffins Per Day

SURABAYA - The Surabaya City Government has made various efforts to speed up the burial of COVID-19 bodies. One of them produces 100 coffins per day.

"The city government does make the coffins themselves, so that later when someone is sent for curing at Keputih, we continue to bathe and put them in the coffin, then we bury them. So, this is what we do, whatever I will do for the people of Surabaya", said the mayor Surabaya, Eri Cahyadi, in Surabaya, Friday, July 2nd.

According to him, the coffin, which was made behind the Surabaya City Hall or in front of the Land and Building Management Office, is expected to be unused. This means that Eri Cahyadi hopes that the number of deaths from COVID-19 will decrease.

"Hopefully none of these crates are used, I hope there will be fewer, fewer COVID-19 victims in Surabaya", he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the Surabaya City Government, Febriadhitya Prajatara, explained that in front of the Land and Building Management office, the city government had set up a tent which became the place for making coffins.

A total of 150 people who are members of the task force also worked quickly and precisely to make the coffin.

"So, the finished coffin is immediately taken to Keputih. Because there is also a place for the burial of corpses", he said.

Febri explained that more coffins were made because, during June 2021, the number of requests for coffins for COVID-19 funerals continued to increase. Data until June 27, 2021, there are as many as 490 funerals that use health protocols.

"So, let's save our children, wives, and grandchildren, save our families by continuing to take care of the progress. If we love the family, of course, we have to maintain the progress, let's be together and work together against COVID-19", he said.
