Eid Al Fitr Sayings: Is Minal Aidin Wal Faizin Right?

JAKARTA - The most common congratulations (tahniah) when welcoming Eid in our society are "minal aidin wal faizin". Maybe there are still many who think this statement implies apologizing physically and spiritually. In fact, that is not the meaning. Then what is the true meaning of these words? Is the sentence pronounced correctly in welcoming Eid Al-Fitr?

Quoting NU Online, when referring to traditions among the companions of the Prophet, the greeting of tahniah to fellow Muslims who have succeeded in completing the fast of Ramadan is: taqabbalallahu minna wa minkum. That's the short version.

The full version is added "taqabbal yaa kariim, wa ja'alanaallaahu wa iyyaakum minal 'aidin wal faizin". There are also those who still add it "wal maqbuulin kullu' ammin wa antum bi khair."

The meaning of the sentence is "May Allah accept our Ramadan worship deeds and you. O Allah, the Most Honorable, accept it. And may Allah make us and you including those who return and those who win and are accepted (acts of worship). . Every year I hope you will always be in goodness. "

From this the short words "minal aidin wal faizin" were born. And from there we also know that these words have no meaning to apologize physically and mentally.

So, if we want to imitate what the companions of the Prophet did, it is most appropriate to say that long greeting. If it is too long, we can summarize it as "taqabbalallaahu minnaa wa minkum" instead of saying "minal aidin wal faizin."

The author of the Arabic-Indonesian dictionary Al Munawwir, the late KH Munawwir, even said that he did not dare to use the phrase "wal faizin" which means winning. "Really, I don't dare one hundred percent to say 'yes, it worked.' In fact, it could be the opposite, "said Kiai, as quoted by NU Online.

Instead of saying minal aidin wal faizin, Kiai Munawir prefers the diction "minal aidin wal maqbulin" which means: Hopefully we can return to nature-holy, and hopefully our sins are forgiven by Allah. In other words, we hope that all the worship that we carry out during the month of Ramadan starting from prayer, fasting, zakat and all other deeds are accepted by Allah.
