Three Bio Farma Scenarios In Handling COVID-19

JAKARTA - Bio Farma's Managing Director Honesti Basyir said, in accordance with the slogan #BUMN forIndonesia, Bio Farma as a BUMN engaged in the pharmaceutical sector has prepared several scenarios to help deal with this COVID-19.

Rahman Roestan said the scenarios made by Bio Farma included producing Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) diagnostic kits which were the result of collaboration with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology ( BPPT).

Not only that, Roestan said, Bio Farma has also formed Nusantics which is the result of a collaboration in the nuances of mutual cooperation in the Indonesia Sure Can Movement.

"In producing this RT-PCR, Bio Farma has the task of producing and testing RT-PCR kits, simultaneous comparative tests with 10 laboratories for accuracy and specificity testing," said Roestan.

Convalescent plasma is a therapy given to COVID-19 patients who are entering a critical period, by providing plasma from patients who have been declared cured of COVID-19.

Bio Farma's task is to receive plasma from the RSPAD to check for antibody levels against the SARS-Cov-2 virus that causes COVID-19, so that it is feasible to be given to COVID-19 patients.

"The third is the manufacture of a mobile lab with Bio Safety Lavel 3 (BSL 3) standards, Bio Farma has the competence to make this mobile lab which results will be useful for FK UNPAD or LABKESDA to increase test capacity for the community," he explained.

According to Roesman, during a pandemic like now, the BSL3 Mobile Laboratory functions as a facility for emergency response as a form of Bio Farma's responsibility in handling the COVID-19 pandemic, through the PCR swab test.
