JAKARTA - The underprivileged residents of Jember, East Java can smile amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Because the local government will distribute social assistance in the form of 30 tons of rice and masks.

Jember Regent Hendy Siswanto together with the regional leadership communication forum (forkopimda) released troops who distributed social assistance as much as 30 tons of rice from the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation and Entrepreneurs Care for the Republic of Indonesia after holding a troop rally in front of the Jember Regency Government Office, Monday.

"Thank you for the assistance from Buddha Tzu Chi and Entrepreneurs Caring for the Republic of Indonesia, this is very appropriate because the trend of COVID-19 is currently rising in Jember, so that assistance is highly expected by the community," said Regent of Jember Hendy Siswanto.

According to him, the social assistance is prioritized for areas with a high risk zone for the spread of the Corona virus (red zone), namely in Sumberjambe District, so that his party targets the distribution of aid to be completed a maximum of Tuesday, June 29.

"We involve everything from the village head, RT and RW heads, as well as posyandu cadres who are also involved in the distribution of the social assistance," he said.

He said the trend of the COVID-19 pandemic in Jember was rising, so the Jember Regency Government reminded the public to be more disciplined in carrying out health protocols in daily life.

"All people must apply the 5M, namely wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining distance, avoiding crowds, and reducing mobility to suppress the spread of the Corona virus," he said.

Hendy explained that the implementation and prevention of COVID-19 would run as expected if there was synergy and solidity between the community and related elements, so he invited all elements of society to work hand in hand to face the pandemic.

Based on data from the Jember COVID-19 Task Force, additional positive cases reached 41 cases this Monday, bringing the total confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Jember to 7,424 cases, 253 active cases, 6,655 recovered patients, and 516 deaths. case.
