BANYUWANGI - A health worker who served at the Licin Health Center, Banyuwangi, East Java, has died from exposure to COVID-19.

The health worker had previously been treated at Blambangan Hospital with comorbid diabetes mellitus.

"A health worker in Licin, the person concerned has been buried today," said Banyuwangi Health Office Head Widji Lestariono at the Banyuwangi COVID-19 Task Force Command Post, Thursday, June 24.

Rio said the health worker was survived by three children and that her husband had also died several years earlier.

"He is almost every day dealing with people who are confirmed positive, so transmission can occur during contact," he said.

He said the victim was a close contact tracer in Licin District. It is suspected that the victim was exposed to COVID-19 while in contact with residents.

Rio said the Banyuwangi Regency Government provided assistance to the bereaved families.

"That must be part of what we think about," he said.

Meanwhile, at the Kedungwungu Health Center as many as 8 health workers were exposed to COVID-19.

They are now self-isolating because they are asymptomatic. While those who are negative are still in charge of providing health services to the community.

"The positive ones are isolated. All the Puskesmas rooms are disinfected and the negative ones can still provide health services to the community," he said.

Cases of COVID-19 in Banyuwangi jumped sharply. Even today's daily cases are the highest in East Java with the addition of 79 cases.
