Prosecutor's Office Asked To Respond To Public Complaints About The Alleged Involvement Of The Riau Governor In Corruption

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Pangeran Khairul Saleh highlighted the exchange of reports between Riau Governor Syamsuar and students on cases of alleged involvement in social assistance corruption.

Students considered the Riau High Court to be slow in responding to complaints against Syamsuar. Meanwhile, Syamsuar reported the students to the police because they felt insulted.

Regarding this, Pangeran said that complaints and even demonstrations were common.

"We know that many corruption cases have been revealed to have come from public complaints. So any complaints, especially in this case involving government officials at the provincial or district level, can certainly be followed up by the authorities," Pangeran said, Tuesday, June 22.

According to him, those who are complained of or suspected of being involved in legal problems do not need to be angry as long as they feel confident and proud if they have not committed the alleged violation of the law.

However, as Deputy Chairman of Commission III, Pangeran still asked for the principles of transparency in law enforcement to be upheld.

"However, if it is properly followed up, the principles of transparency and openness must be implemented. Likewise, the parties who are complained must also cooperate with the ongoing legal process," he said.

Previously, a number of students held a demonstration demanding that the prosecutor at the Riau Prosecutor's Office arrest Riau Governor Syamsuar for allegedly being involved in the alleged corruption of social assistance (bansos) in Siak Regency.

In his speech, the coordinator of the demonstration Al-Qudri explained that the Riau Prosecutor's Office was considered slow in completing the investigation of allegations of corruption that had harmed the people.

"Even though the Investigation Order (Sprindik) Number PRINT-09/L.4/Fd.1/09/2020, has been signed directly by the Head of the Riau High Prosecutor's Office (Kajati), dated September 29, 2020," he said.

On the other hand, Riau Governor Syamsuar also reported students who took action at the Riau High Court some time ago to the Riau Police. Because he did not accept the actions taken by the demonstrators who brought demonstration props in the form of a banner that reads "ARREST THE Dracula GOVERNOR..!!!"

"The Governor of Riau personally filed a complaint this Monday to the Riau Police regarding the losses he suffered regarding insults that harmed his dignity, both personally and in his position as Governor of Riau," said Alhendri Tanjung, as Syamsuar's attorney on Monday, June 21.
