Secretary General of the PDI-P Hasto Kristiyanto emphasized that his party would stick to the constitutional rules that stipulate that the president's term of office is only two terms.

"The party's stance is clear, the president's term of office is two terms because the party adheres to the constitution," Hasto told reporters on Monday, June 21.

Hasto said it was not appropriate to re-roll the discourse on a three-term presidential term in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic situation. All parties should now focus on dealing with the pandemic.

In addition, another thing that is more important than the discourse on the three-term presidential office is discussing the steps that need to be taken so that the direction and direction of the state for the long and medium term can be formulated.

That way, said Hasto, there is a continuation of the direction of the country's development even though a president only serves for two terms

"Thus, the priority scale of the next President is expected to be based on the achievements made by President Jokowi. Here, continuity for the progress of the nation will be created," he said.

The issue of a three-term presidential term has resurfaced recently. Especially after the emergence of groups supporting President Joko Widodo to re-run in the upcoming 2024 Presidential Election.

The group calling itself the Jokowi-Prabowo (Jokpro) National Secretariat admitted that there was a lot of support in the community for Jokowi to run again in the upcoming presidential election.

In fact, the current constitutional mandate clearly states that the president's term of office is only two terms. In addition, Jokowi himself has also refused to be re-nominated because it is against the constitution.

It's like slapping Jokowi in the face

PDI-P DPP chairman Ahmad Basarah emphasized that his party rejected the idea of a three-term presidential term.

President Jokowi, said Basarah, considers the people who came up with the three-term idea to seek advances.

"In satire, President Jokowi considers people who came up with the idea of 3 periods, want to look for face, want to slap me in the face and want to plunge me. So, if the subject doesn't want to, I think it's very bad for our constitution to be played with people's interests. per person," he said.

In addition, the Deputy Chairperson of the MPR said that PDIP also rejected the narrative that the president was elected by the MPR.

Basarah said that if there was an amendment, PDIP wanted a limited amendment, namely so that the MPR could establish the Outlines of State Policy (GBHN).

"At all we never discussed the president being elected by the MPR, PDIP's stance is a limited amendment, meaning that it does not want to spread anywhere, only adding one paragraph in Article 3 of the 1945 Constitution, namely the MPR is given the authority to determine the direction and direction of national development," he explained.

Basarah explained that there was an amendment so that the MPR stipulates the GBHN so that national development will continue. So added Basarah, the ethics of leaders changing national development programs does not stop.

PDIP will withdraw from the agenda of amendments to the 1945 Constitution if it leads to a change in the president's term of office.
