BANYUWANGI - A cluster of COVID-19 transmission from a remarriage celebration was found in Banyuwangi, East Java. The COVID-19 celebration cluster was found in Sumberasri Village, Purwoharjo District.

A total of 14 people who previously attended the celebration were exposed to COVID-19. This cluster was discovered when a resident was sick and when he was tested positive for COVID-19.

"There (Sumberasri) there was a spike in cases of people attending the celebration, of which there were 14 positive people," said Head of the Banyuwangi Health Service, Dr. Widji Lestariono, in his office, Monday, June 21.

Thus, there are two celebration clusters in Banyuwangi that are currently detected. The first celebration cluster was detected in Wringinpitu, Tegaldlimo District.

As of Monday, June 21, 46 residents were exposed to COVID-19. Of that number, one person died, 19 recovered and 26 active cases were recorded.

However, from this cluster since last Sunday, June 20, no one has been found to be positive when tested from close contacts.

"Yesterday I was tracing and couldn't find anything positive again," he said.

Widji said, the emergence of this celebration cluster indicated that COVID-19 spread quickly when there was a crowd.

"This transmission occurs in crowds and removes masks. We urge residents to be vigilant when inviting people who have the potential to be in a crowd. We must reconsider," he said.

If there are activities, residents must report to the Sub-District Task Force for an assessment of the implementation of health protocols.

Meanwhile, the Banyuwangi Health Office noted that 6,857 residents were exposed to COVID-19 as of June 20. Of that number, 256 people were treated, 5,902 recovered, and 699 people died.
