Eight Days Floating On The High Seas, Aceh Fishermen Successfully Saved By Thailand's Bakamla

JAKARTA - Fisherman from Sabang, Aceh Ade Elfikar (40) must undergo treatment at Wachira Hospital, Phuket after floating for eight days on the high seas. He was rescued by the Thai Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla) ship.

"After arriving inland, Ade was then taken to Wachira Hospital, Phuket for treatment," said Deputy Secretary General of Panglima Laot Aceh Miftach Cut Adek, in Banda Aceh, as reported by Antara, Friday, June 18.

Previously, the Thai Bakamla area 3 ship rescued Sabang fisherman, Aceh Ade Elfikar (40) who was floating in the South Racha waters, Phuket island.

The fisherman was stranded to Thailand because he suffered damage to the engine of the boat he was piloting alone.

Miftach said that based on information he received from the Indonesian Consulate in Songkhla, the Sabang fisherman first left the island of Weh Sabang on Sunday, June 6, along with other traditional fishermen by using their respective boats to the north coast of Weh Island to catch fish.

"About an hour into the cruise, suddenly this group of fishermen was attacked by a big wind and the ship was scattered, then they all tried to save themselves," he said.

However, said Miftach, the ship piloted by Ade Elfikar suffered an engine failure, where the ship's piston broke and the ship was then carried away by the current until it lost track of other fishing groups and was tossed in the sea for eight days so that it arrived in the Racha island area around 25.6 N south. the island of Phuket Thailand.

"Then Ade's boat was found by the fishing patrol boat Bakamla (Sorn Chon) area 3 in Andaman waters in a damaged condition, and he was in a state of shock after floating for eight days on the high seas, after which he was only taken to a hospital in Phuket," said Miftach.

Miftach said, regarding the follow-up of the fishermen, the Indonesian Consulate Songkhla had contacted the Mayor of Sabang to then convey to the concerned family about his current condition.

"The Indonesian Consulate in Songkhla has written to the Mayor of Sabang to notify the concerned family to speed up the recovery process," said Miftach.
