Dozens Of House of Representatives Members COVID-19, Activities In Parliament Restricted To Only 25 Percent, Virtual Commission Meeting

JAKARTA - Several commissions in the House of Representatives have postponed meeting activities and even adopted a Lockdown policy in line with the soaring COVID-19 cases in the parliament. The House of Representatives leadership said that starting next week, activities at the House of Representatives building would be tightened.

Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives for Korkesra, Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar, said the level of physical attendance at meetings at the House of Representatives building should be limited to only 25 percent. This follows the finding of 46 people exposed to COVID-19 within the House of Representatives.

"So, only 25 percent is in the room. The rest of the meetings are held virtually", said Muhaimin, Friday, June 18.

The Chairperson of the Supervisory Team for the Implementation of the COVID-19 Pandemic Disaster Management at the House of Representatives also proposed that the Board Apparatus (AKD) meeting with his partners could be held virtually.

"The virtual meeting does not reduce the essence of the meeting itself", said the general chairman of the PKB.

Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives Indra Iskandar revealed that as many as 46 people who carry out daily activities in the House of Representatives complex were confirmed positive for COVID-19.

The number of members of the House of Representatives who are positive for COVID-19 is 11 people, experts, internal security and parliamentary TV employees (7), and 17 civil servants.

"There are 11 members of the House of Representatives", said Indra.
