Crazy! 4 'Bad Boy' Extortion Groups In Tanjung Priok Have A Neat Work Structure, It's Not Difficult To Squeeze Company Money

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya arrested four groups of thuggery and illegal levies (extortion) in the Tanjung Priok Port area. This arrest was made after the order of the National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo to eradicate thuggery in the port area and its surroundings.

"There are four groups that have been revealed with the modus operandi of attracting extortion from truck operators with a total of 24 suspects," said Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran to reporters, Thursday, June 17.

Of the four groups arrested, one of them is known as the 'Bad Boy' group. From the results of the examination, this group committed extortion to several companies.

"This group has collected a routine monthly fee of Rp9.1 million to 12 companies that provide 134 units of container fleets,"

"This was organized by the leadership. So the leaders, staff, coordinators of asmoro (as thugs) in the field. Four suspects from the bad boy group were arrested," explained Fadil.

Then, the second group was known as the Haluan Jaya Prakasa group. At least six people from this group were arrested. They are the chairperson, administrative board, members, field coordinator, group coordinator of thugs and squirrels jumping in the field.

"From them (the thugs) managed to confiscate Rp177,349,500. The money was collected from 141 container companies," said Fadil.

The third group is Sapta Jaya Abadi. In this group, the police arrested three people consisting of the leader, the field coordinator and the administrative division.

"This group collects money every month from 23 transportation companies that have a fleet of 529 units. The total money confiscated from their offices is Rp. 24,650,000," said Fadil.

Finally, the Tanjung Raya Kemilau thugs group. Around 10 people were arrested from the group who withdrew money from 30 container transport companies with a total of 809 container trucks.

"From that group, Rp. 82.56 million was confiscated," said Fadil.

Previously, the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo issued a Telegram Letter to suppress extortion and thuggery at ports throughout Indonesia.

This telegram was issued on the orders of President Jokowi who asked the National Police Chief to solve extortion and thugs who made port drivers complain.

The Telegram letter numbered ST/1251/VI/HUK.7.1/2021 dated June 15, 2021, was addressed to the Kapolda due to rampant acts of thuggery and illegal levies (extortion) in the port area and its surroundings.

This condition causes unrest and is one of the factors that causes weak national competitiveness and hinders national economic growth. This Telegram letter, which is an order, emphasizes 5 things that the Kapolda must carry out.

1. Carry out enhanced Police activities (K2YD) in the Port Areas in their respective areas with the target of thuggery actions.

2. Implement law enforcement against all acts of thuggery in the port area in their respective regions.

3. Increase efforts to prevent illegal levies together with extortion eradication units in port areas in their respective regions.

4. Law enforcement with APIP against illegal acts that occur in port areas in their respective areas.

5. Reporting the results of activities to the Chief of Police and Kabareskrim.
