Kazakh Woman Arrested in Bali for Smuggling Hasish Drugs

DENPASAR - The Bali Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) together with Ngurah Rai Customs thwarted an attempt to smuggle hashish-type narcotics from Kazakhstan to Bali involving a female citizen of Kazakhstan from Bangkok.

Head of the Bali Provincial BNN, Brigadier General Putu Putera Sadanamen, explained that the action was taken on Tuesday (4/8) against a female passenger with the initials VM (25), a citizen of Kazakhstan, who arrived in Bali from Bangkok, Thailand.

"During the examination, officers found one black jar plastic package inside VM's suitcase," said Sadana in Denpasar, Wednesday, Thursday, August 13.

The packaging contains a gel suspected of being a type of narcotic, hashish, with a weight of 1,079 grams gross.

Sadana explained that the narcotics package was disguised among women's clothing and accessories in the suitcase.

The modus operandi of smuggling hashish was allegedly carried out to deceive officers during an inspection at the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.

From the results of the initial examination of VM and the communication tools he used, officers obtained information that the woman was suspected of not working alone.

VM admitted that he was ordered by a woman who was said to be in Kazakhstan to bring the suitcase to Bali and hand it over to someone whose identity is not yet known.

Following up on this information, the Head of the Bali Provincial BNN, Putu Sadana, ordered the Bali BNNP Eradication Team to develop the network.

The officers then conducted a communication control between the VM and the woman who was suspected of being the controller from Kazakhstan. The team also conducted profiling on the figure who was referred to as the controller.

However, based on data on immigration crossings, the woman suspected of being the controller is known to have left Indonesia since 2020.

Putu Sadana said hashish was a Schedule I narcotic. According to him, the circulation of hashish in Bali is quite rampant and one of the groups of concern is foreign nationals.

"Currently, VM and evidence have been secured and taken to the Bali Provincial BNN Office for examination and further development," said Sadana.

BNNP Bali is still investigating the network behind the smuggling, including uncovering the parties who are controllers and potential recipients of suitcases containing hashish in Bali.
