JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan asked all parties to be aware of the spike in COVID-19 cases, which usually occurs after a long holiday. Currently, the spike has begun to be seen.

"The conditions faced by all of us in Indonesia, including in Jakarta, there is a new wave that should not be taken lightly because of the increasing number of cases," said Anies in Central Jakarta, Monday, June 14.

As a COVID-19 survivor, Anies admitted that he was uncomfortable because he had to self-isolate and feel the symptoms. There are fears that he will transmit COVID-19 to his family.

Therefore, Anies invites the entire community to realize that currently we are still in a pandemic condition.

"Stay at home except for basic needs. The rest, business people and economic, social, cultural, religious, make sure health protocols are adhered to. It is part of a responsible attitude to protect ourselves, our environment, our families," explained Anies.

Last night, DKI held a Joint Large-Scale Patrol Ceremony which was attended by the Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit, Polda Metro Jaya and Kodam Jaya as well as elements of the community at Blok S Field, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

As inspector of ceremonies, Anies Baswedan instructed all parties to increase vigilance, especially in the last few weeks there was a significant increase in active cases, positivity rates and the occupancy of health facilities in Jakarta.

"Tonight, we from the DKI Provincial Government, together with the Polda Metro Jaya, Pangdam Jaya, and elements of the community, gathered here to start a new chapter in handling the COVID-19 pandemic in the capital city," Anies said yesterday.

In recent days, there has been an increase in cases with a fairly high spike. In the past week, active cases of COVID-19 in the capital city increased by 50 percent, from 11,500 to 17,400 cases.

Positive results from all specimen examinations or the positivity rate also jumped a week ago, from 9 percent to 17 percent with the addition of new cases in the last four days every day increasing by 2,000, 2300, 2400, and as of Sunday, June 13, 2,700 cases.

“Tonight we all must be aware, the capital city is in a condition that requires extra attention. If the current conditions are out of control, we will enter a critical phase, and if that phase occurs then we must take drastic steps like what happened last September and February. We want this incident not to repeat itself," Anies explained.
