JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan admitted that he targets Jakarta to be able to vaccinate 100 thousand people per day for COVID-19.

This is done so that the target of 7.5 million people who have been vaccinated in August given by President Joko Widodo is fulfilled.

"Our target in Jakarta is to carry out vaccination activities, God willing, the target is 100 thousand per day on average. So, by the end of August there will be 7.5 million Jakarta residents who have received the vaccine," said Anies in the Central Jakarta area, Monday, 14 June.

Anies said that currently the capital city has vaccinated the first dose to 2,880,882 people and the second dose to 1,861,918 people.

That means, DKI needs to add another 4.5 million vaccination target. If the 7.5 million people are vaccinated, Jakarta will be in a situation of herd immunity.

"So now we say 2.9 million have been vaccinated. The target in June is 3 million. Now there are only 100 thousand left, the target will be achieved this month," he said.

Furthermore, Anies said that 72 percent of the target has been vaccinated for the elderly. Although there is a high increase in cases, the COVID-19 death rate in Jakarta has not increased.

"Although there is a high wave, the death rate is low because many exposed parents have already received the vaccine. So they do not experience severe symptoms," he explained.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has asked for massive COVID-19 vaccinations for people in DKI Jakarta.

In fact, he gave an ambitious target and needed hard work to DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan regarding the administration of this vaccine.

"I have conveyed to the Governor of DKI Jakarta that by the end of August, the target of 7.5 million people in Jakarta must have been vaccinated. This is indeed an ambitious target," Jokowi said in a press conference broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Monday, June 14.

This ambitious target was inevitably launched in order to achieve community immunity or herd immunity amid the spread of COVID-19.

"Like it or not, we have to go there," said the former governor of DKI Jakarta.
