The first 10 days of August were recorded as the hottest period in South Korean history.

South Korea (South Korea) is experiencing a summer with the highest temperature record this year, with the national average temperature - excluding Jeju Island - reaching 29.1°C in the first 10 days of August.

This figure is the highest record ever recorded, according to the country's meteorological agency on Tuesday.

According to the Korea Meteorological Agency (KMA), the figure is equivalent to the average temperature of 10 days in August 2018, making it the hottest first 10 days of August in the past 53 years (since 1973, when the weather observation network was expanded nationwide), quoted from The Korea Times (11/8).

The average daily maximum temperature during the first 10 days of this month was 34.4°C; this figure is the second highest after the record 34.7°C recorded in 2018, said the KMA.

The average daily minimum temperature - which is an indicator of the heat at night - was recorded at 24.8°C in the same period. This figure is the third highest in history, after 25°C in 2022 and 24.9°C in 2018.

The highest temperature recorded during the 10-day period was 42.5°C, which was observed in the city of Yangsan (southeastern region) at 13.26 on August 2.

According to the KMA, the figure is also the highest temperature ever recorded in the country since 1904, when modern meteorological observations began.
