KMP Mutiara Sentosa II Victim Treated at PHC Surabaya Hospital Increased to 15 People

The body of the victim of the Mutiara Sentosa 2 KMP fire, Sari Sukoco (39), arrived at the funeral home in Tertek Village, Tulungagung, East Java, Monday (3/8/2026) evening.

SURABAYA - The number of victims of the Mutiara Sentosa II KMP who received treatment at the Surabaya PHC Hospital increased to 15 people as of Wednesday, August 5 morning. The victims experienced a number of health complaints after being involved in a ship fire incident and had survived at sea.

The majority of the victims complained of headaches, nausea, and vomiting. This condition is suspected to be due to the large amount of seawater swallowed when they tried to save themselves and swim to the location of the rescue ship.

Of the total 15 victims who were treated at the Surabaya PHC Hospital, 11 people were hospitalized and four people were undergoing outpatient treatment. Based on age groups, most of the victims were adults with 10 people, three toddlers, and one elderly person.

Director of PHC Surabaya Hospital, Dr. Rony Kurniawan, said that the health condition of the victims was constantly monitored by the medical team. The most common complaints felt by the victims are related to the effects after being in the sea for quite some time.

"The majority of them have headaches, nausea, and vomiting, allegedly due to most of them swallowing seawater when swimming in the sea to the location of the rescue ship," said Dr. Rony Kurniawan.

The victims of KMP Mutiara Sentosa II arrived at the Surabaya PHC Hospital gradually. The first wave arrived on Monday, August 3 in the early morning through the Siantar KM with a total of nine people.

Then, two other victims arrived on Monday morning after being evacuated using KRI Nala. Furthermore, the victims came back through KM Hasnur on Tuesday afternoon.

Apart from the rescue ship, the Surabaya PHC Hospital also received three victims who were previously staying at the hotel where they were staying. The three victims arrived at the hospital on Tuesday night to get medical examinations and treatment.

The medical team at the Surabaya PHC Hospital continues to observe the condition of all patients, especially those who are still undergoing hospitalization.

The hospital said that if the condition of the inpatient improves after undergoing monitoring, they have the potential to be allowed to continue treatment as outpatients.

The KMP Mutiara Sentosa II incident previously occurred when the ship caught fire in Sumenep waters, East Java. The evacuation process for the victims was carried out by a joint team involving various elements, including Basarnas and the TNI Navy.

Until now, the process of handling the victims is still ongoing, both for victims undergoing medical treatment and the process of identification and search for passengers who are still missing.
