Hamas Appreciates Israel's Increased Attacks in Gaza to Foil Ceasefire

JAKARTA - The Palestinian militant group Hamas on Sunday accused Israel of deliberately intensifying its attacks in the Gaza Strip to thwart an agreement reached with mediators and the United States Government on the implementation of a ceasefire agreement.

In its statement, Hamas said Israeli attacks since Sunday morning had killed more than 18 Palestinians and "destroyed" entire families.

The bombing was a "deliberate escalation by the criminal government of war criminal Netanyahu, aimed at obstructing the agreement reached with the mediators, including the US administration, to complete the implementation of the ceasefire agreement," he said, quoted by Anadolu (3/8).

The group described the attack as an act that "amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity," and called on the international community to take legal action to hold Israeli leaders accountable.

Hamas further called on the mediators and guarantors of the ceasefire agreement to "carry out their responsibilities," condemning Israel's attacks and "immediately" pressuring Israel to stop its attacks and abide by the agreement.

Meanwhile, the Peace Council also urged measures to protect Palestinians, who it said continued to face "genocide and expulsion threats."

On Friday, the Peace Council and US President Donald Trump announced an agreement to implement the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire, with the council saying Hamas had accepted a detailed roadmap.

Meanwhile, Israel has not officially commented on the proposal.
