Bad News From West Papua, Positive Case Of COVID-19 Reach 9,464

JAKARTA - The West Papua Province COVID-19 task force reported an additional 14 positive cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, June 13.

The additional 14 cases came from Fakfak Regency 5 people, Sorong City 5 people, Sorong Regency 3 people, and Manokwari 1 person.

Spokesman for the West Papua COVID-19 Task Force, Arnold Tiniap, said that there were an additional 14 positive cases of Corona from the four regions, bringing the total positive cases of Corona in West Papua to 9,464 cases or around 20.5 percent.

He mentioned that based on the daily data recap of the district and city COVID-19 Task Force, as of this weekend, the highest positive COVID-19 cases were in Manokwari Regency, namely 3,556 cases, followed by Sorong City with 3,265 positive COVID-19 cases.

"From an accumulative point of view, since the pandemic in this province, Manokwari Regency and Sorong City are at the top, but patients recovering in these two areas are also quite high," he said as quoted by Antara, Monday, June 14.

Spokesman Arnold Tiniap also reported that an additional 7 patients recovered from the coronavirus in West Papua today from the city of Sorong, 6 patients, and 1 patient in Sorong district.

"So the total recovered patients in West Papua have reached 9,204 people or around 97.3 percent.

Meanwhile, cases of patients dying from COVID-19 in West Papua have reached 175 people, or around 1.9 percent of the total positive cases.

Tiniap acknowledged that the appeals and various agendas were continuously improved to educate the public to comply with health protocols.

"We hope for the active role of the community to suppress the high number of positive cases by adhering to health protocols," he said.
