22 People Died In Traffic Accident In West Pasaman, Police Ask Public Order

SUMATERA - A total of 22 people died in traffic accidents in West Pasaman Regency, West Sumatra in the period January to May 2021.

"The number of accidents has reached 120, with seven seriously injured, 121 lightly injured, and 22 dead," said Head of the West Pasaman Police Traffic Unit, Iptu Indra Kusuma at Simpang Empat, as reported by Antara, Sunday, June 23.

He said that when compared to the same period January-May 2020, the number of accidents had increased because the previous number of accidents was 107 incidents.

However, there has been a decrease in the death toll, because in the same period in 2020, the number of people who died reached 35, seriously injured 12, and lightly injured 114 people.

He detailed that in January 2021 there were 23 accidents with three deaths, one serious injury, and 22 minor injuries. Meanwhile, in January 2020 there were 25 accidents with six people dying, three people being seriously injured, and one person being lightly injured.

February 2021 with 20 accidents, one death, one serious injury, and 21 minor injuries. In February 2020, with 18 accidents, six people died, three people were seriously injured, and 13 people were slightly injured.

In March 2021 there were 19 accidents, 8 people died, two people were seriously injured, and 16 people were lightly injured. In March 2020 there were 31 accidents, eight people died, three people were seriously injured, and 38 people slightly injured.

April 2021 there were 25 accidents, five people died, three people were seriously injured, and 25 people were lightly injured. In April 2020 there were 14 accidents with the death of two people, serious injuries of one person, and minor injuries of 14 people.

Meanwhile, in May 2021 there were 33 accidents with five deaths, no serious injuries, and 37 minor injuries. In May 2020 there were 19 accidents, five people died, two people were seriously injured, and 28 people were slightly injured. "For the month of June, we have not recap the number of accidents," he said.

According to him, the accidents that occurred in West Pasaman were dominated by productive groups who violated the rules.

"The accident started with a violation. For example, not wearing a helmet, not wearing a mirror, violating traffic signs, in addition to negligence factors," he also said.

He invited all motorists to obey traffic signs and driving equipment such as SIM and STNK. "If you use a SIM in the event of an accident, you can claim insurance," he said.
