JAKARTA - The issue of Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo Subianto running again in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

"If the two are paired up. It's a stale, out-of-date pair, won't sell well, and probably won't win. Because in 2024 voters will be dominated by young voters," Ujang told VOI, Sunday, June 13.

According to Ujang, Megawati and Prabowo themselves have actually realized the potential for defeat if they both run as presidential and vice presidential candidates. Therefore, the closeness that is built is also as lobbies for all future political scenarios.

Both parties, said Ujang, are still groping. If the interests are the same, PDIP and Gerindra will join hands like in 2009. If later the interests are different, then they will be opposite like the 2014 and 2019 presidential elections.

"Perhaps a possible scenario from the closeness of the two, it could be the Prabowo-Puan scenario. Or it could be another scenario, but not the Mega-Prabowo scenario. Apart from Prabowo losing twice for president, is it time to step down as vice president," he said.

Megawati and Prabowo's closeness has often been seen lately. In fact, during this event, Megawati greeted the former presidential candidate, Joko Widodo (Jokowi) who was competing in the 2019 presidential election, who was then greeted with respect.

Megawati and Prabowo also took selfies when Prabowo was sworn in as Minister of Defense in October 2019.

In response to this, the Secretary General of the PDI-P, Hasto Kristiyanto, refused to speak at length. He only said that there was nothing strange about the closeness between the two figures and the PDI-P always tried to show the politics of friendship.

Dasco reiterated that until now his party has not decided on the 2024 presidential election coalition. The issue of candidacy, he said, will usually be decided in a special internal party forum.

"In Gerindra itself, the matter of the coalition has not been decided and our custom is to have a special forum for that and usually not at the beginning," he said.

The Mega-Prabowo pair never existed in the 2009 election. They fought the SBY-Boediono pair with serial number 2 and JK-Wiranto with serial number 3.

The Mega-Prabowo pair was promoted by the PDIP and Gerindra Party, and was supported by the Sovereignty Party, the Work of Struggle Party, PNI Marhaenisme, the Labor Party, the Sarikat Indonesia Party, and the Merdeka Party.

The pair number 1 lost to the SBY-Boediono pair. Mega-Prabowo received 26.79 percent of the vote; SBY-Boediono received 60.80 percent of the votes; and JK-Wiranto received 12.41 percent of the vote.
