TAIPEI - As part of efforts to expand access to financial services for Indonesian citizens (WNI) in Taiwan, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk through the Taipei Foreign Branch Office (BRI Taipei Branch Office) together with the Indonesian Trade and Economic Office (KDEI) Taipei signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) synergy in financial education and banking services.
The signing of the LoI took place in Taipei, Thursday (17/7) and was signed by General Manager of BRI Taipei Branch Andik Kurniawan together with Head of KDEI Taipei Arif Sulistiyo, and was attended by Director of Treasury & International Banking BRI Farida Thamrin and Senior Executive Vice President (SEVP) Internal Audit BRI Yulianto Setiawan.
Director of Treasury & International Banking of BRI Farida Thamrin said this cooperation is part of BRI's commitment to continue to provide easily accessible financial services while expanding financial education for Indonesian people abroad.
"We hope that with this collaboration, more Indonesian people in Taiwan understand the importance of healthy financial management and utilize banking services according to their needs. This is also part of BRI's commitment to provide inclusive and easily accessible financial services for Indonesian people abroad," he said.
This collaboration is also supported by the increasing number of Indonesian citizens in Taiwan which, by the end of 2025, has reached more than 400 thousand people, consisting of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI), students, professionals, and Indonesian diaspora. As the number increases, the need for access to safe, easy, and inclusive financial services, as well as increasing financial literacy becomes increasingly important.
Through this cooperation, BRI Taipei Branch Office and KDEI Taipei will explore various forms of collaboration, including the implementation of financial literacy socialization, personal financial management education, the use of digital banking services, remittance services, to the introduction of various banking products and services that can support the financial needs of Indonesian citizens in Taiwan.
Farida also added that as a bank with an international network, BRI continues to strengthen its role in supporting the financial needs of Indonesian diaspora in various countries. BRI Taipei Branch Office is BRI's sixth international network after the New York Agency, Cayman Islands Branch, Hong Kong Representative Office, Singapore Branch, and Timor-Leste Branch.
Since operating in 2021 as a Full Retail Foreign Bank Branch in Taiwan, BRI Taipei Branch Office has provided various banking services, ranging from savings, loans, remittances, trade finance, treasury, to other banking services for the public and business actors.
BRI Taipei Branch Office has also launched BRImo Taiwan in March 2026, as a digital banking service solution designed to make it easier for Indonesian Citizens (WNI) in Taiwan to access various banking services in a practical, safe, and convenient manner. The presence of BRImo Taiwan is a manifestation of BRI's commitment to providing increasingly inclusive financial services and supporting the financial transaction needs of Indonesian citizens in Taiwan.
"In the future, the synergy between BRI Taipei Branch and KDEI Taipei is expected to expand access for Indonesian citizens in Taiwan to financial education and banking services that meet their needs. This collaboration also strengthens BRI's commitment to supporting financial inclusion for the Indonesian diaspora," said Farida.
On the other hand, the Head of KDEI Taipei, Arif Sulistiyo, said KDEI Taipei has established close cooperation with the BRI Taipei Branch as the only bank member of the State-Owned Bank Association (Himbara) operating in Taiwan.
"The presence of BRI as the only Himbara bank in Taiwan has a strategic position in supporting the needs of the Indonesian people, especially in increasing understanding of finance and banking services," said Arif.
He hopes that the existence of the BRI Taipei Branch will not only facilitate public access to banking service information, but also increase the literacy and financial education of SMEs and the Indonesian people in Taiwan more broadly. (ADV)
