When a PNM Mekaar Customer's Child Says "My Parents Fight in the Rice Fields, I Fight in School"

Manggarai Barat, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) - In the corner of West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), there is Wae Moto Village which is in the forefront, outermost, and lagging (3T) area. In an area with limited access, schools are not just buildings where learning takes place, but a space where hope is maintained.

For Wae Moto's children, education is a way to break the chain of limitations and open wider opportunities in the future. However, their spirit has always been side by side with the condition of learning facilities that require attention, ranging from school infrastructure to sanitation and hygiene facilities that are not yet fully adequate.

Coinciding with National Children's Day 2026 with the theme "Love Children, Protect and Build the Future", one of the women's economic empowerment institutions under the auspices of Danantara, namely PNM through the PNM Peduli program, presents a simple step that has a big impact on SD Inpres Wae Moto as a form of love that is translated in the form of revitalization of schools.

This spirit is reflected in Mariva Yankezia, a 10-year-old student who comes to school every day with a simple but meaningful belief.

"I still have the spirit to go to school because I know my parents work hard so I can study. I want to study hard so I can make them proud," he said.

Behind this simple sentence is the story of many children in Wae Moto who understand that every step towards school is the fruit of their parents' struggle. This awareness makes education not just a duty, but a form of respect for family sacrifices.

Through PNM Peduli, concern for the future of children is realized by renovating the learning room to be safer and more comfortable, improving sanitation facilities and school hygiene access, and equipping facilities and infrastructure according to the needs collected together with the school.

This effort was born from the belief that a decent learning environment is an important part of shaping the quality of education. In areas that still face challenges in access to clean water and sanitation facilities, the presence of hygiene facilities not only supports student health, but also creates a more humane learning space so that children can grow, learn, and dream with more confidence.

Kindaris, President Director of PNM, revealed the important role of PNM in empowering mothers, which has implications for maintaining the hope of children of its customers for a more prosperous life.

"Empowerment is not just providing capital, but equally important is business assistance so that the benefits are felt by the family, especially their children. I hope that in 15 years, when they can start to achieve their dreams, they will remember that today PNM believes in their dreams." Said Kindaris.
