Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra supports the DPR Commission III's plan to form a working committee to oversee the handling of issues between the National Police and the Attorney General's Office.

Yusril assessed that the DPR's supervision was necessary because the case involved two law enforcement agencies under the government.

"The DPR has formed a committee to conduct oversight, which is as it should be," said Yusril at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, July 22.

According to Yusril, the government is ready to provide explanations if asked to attend the DPR meeting.

"If we are asked for an opinion, we are ready to come to the DPR to explain this issue," he said.

Yusril said his party would look at the legal aspects in handling the case, which has now been handed over by the police to the prosecutor's office.

He also coordinated with the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs to monitor the development of the case and provide suggestions for resolution.

Yusril assessed that the tension between the National Police and the Prosecutor's Office likely originated from a misunderstanding that needed to be clarified immediately.

"This is actually a misunderstanding that needs to be clarified and resolved," he said.

According to Yusril, the President's direction for the case to be handled by the prosecutor's office with the supervision of the Corruption Eradication Commission is appropriate. The public can also monitor the course of the examination.

He hopes that the handling of the case will not interfere with inter-agency law enforcement relations.

"In other cases, we hope that there will be harmony between law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and the police," said Yusril.

The formation of the committee makes the handling of cases not only in the hands of the police. The DPR can ask for information, trace the handling process, and supervise so that the authority of the two institutions does not collide.
