Megawati's Scientific Oration About Leaders Who Are Busy With Imagery, Alludes To The Importance Of Criticism

JAKARTA - The fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri said that the strategic leader is not someone who likes to carry out imagery alone. But it must be the one who goes down and directly comes into contact with the small people.

"Strategic leadership also cannot stand on the basis of imagery," said Megawati.

This was conveyed by Megawati when delivering a scientific oration inaugurating the title of honorary professor (Professional Professor) of Defense Science in the field of Strategic Leadership from the Defense University (IDU) RI, Friday, June 11.

Quoting Jim Collins, Megawati said strategic leadership is leadership that builds an organization, which is far more important than just self-popularity.

On the other hand, strategic leadership requires work from the bottom up, and direct contact with the lower class people or wong cilik.

"Because the measure of a nation's progress, the ideological parameter is actually taken from the state's ability to lift the fate of the poorest and most marginalized people," said Megawati.

"That is the greatest ethical and moral responsibility of a leader: to bring about the creation of social justice," he stressed.

Megawati then invited criticism and self-criticism to be carried out. So that the essence of strategic leadership for the nation and state is understood by its essence and implementation.

"I invite all elements of the nation, especially leaders in the ranks of state government, both central and regional, leaders of political parties, TNI, Polri and all state civil servants, to take the greatest wisdom about the meaning of strategic leadership that comes from the people, by the people and for people," said Megawati.
