YOGYAKARTA - The Chairman of the Central Leadership of Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, said there were three strategic steps that needed to be the attention of the government to deal with corruption cases in Indonesia which were considered to be in the stage of emergency, systemic, and massive.
Haedar said the first step was that President Prabowo as the head of state needed to lead directly in efforts to eradicate corruption through state institutions.
"Because it is in the stage of emergency, the President as the head of the executive government needs to immediately lead the eradication of corruption through the institutions that have been built. Because this level is structured, massive, and systemic," he said as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 14.
According to Haedar, President Prabowo's leadership is an important factor in building a government ecosystem that is fair because the enforcement of strict and consistent laws will be the foundation for maintaining state sovereignty as well as realizing Indonesia's dream of progress.
Haedar believes that if the agenda to eradicate corruption is carried out seriously through the strengthening of state institutions, President Prabowo will leave a strong leadership legacy for the nation.
"I believe the President will be remembered as a figure and head of state who left a solid legacy for the nation because he succeeded in eradicating corruption through existing institutions," he said.
The second step, said Haedar, is the synergy of all law enforcement agencies, ranging from the National Police, the Attorney General's Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), the Financial Supervisory Board (BPK), to other supervisory agencies, so that corruption eradication can be carried out effectively through an integrated system.
"Because only through the system can we eradicate corruption and solve other national problems. It is not enough to just make a moral appeal, even religious power has limits when dealing with problems that are structured within the system," he said.
Haedar added that the success of various strategic government programs, such as Free Nutritious Meals, Red and White Village Cooperatives, and the development agenda in Astacita, depends heavily on a clean government and strong law enforcement.
Therefore, President Prabowo needs to lead with a solid political commitment together with all policymakers and government institutions.
"In that context, I believe there will be no steps that hinder each other because this concerns the interests of the nation and the state," he said.
Haedar also reminded that every institution has limitations, but this should not be an excuse to weaken efforts to eradicate corruption.
"With all the shortcomings and weaknesses of each, we must continue to strive to optimize policy opportunities. The important thing is that we are together, we are united, and we have high political will," he said.
The third step, Haedar reminded, no institution is completely perfect, so the most important thing is a strong political will to continue to improve the system and optimize the steps to eradicate corruption.
"There is no broom that is completely clean. The important thing is that there is optimal political will for all of us to take steps to eradicate corruption," he said.
Haedar also invited all elements of society to continue to monitor the agenda of eradicating corruption because the struggle against corruption is a long-term work that requires consistency and acceleration.
"Let's continue to speak out and don't get tired because eradicating corruption and resolving various national issues is a long-term job. There must be no slowdown, but there must be acceleration," he said.
