BANDUNG - Former West Java Police Chief Inspector General (Ret.) Anton Charliyan welcomed the increase in public confidence in the National Police in the Litbang Kompas survey. However, he reminded that this achievement should not make the police feel satisfied.

According to the retired two-star police general, who is familiarly called Abah Anton, the survey results are an important gift ahead of the 80th Bhayangkara Day. But the rising numbers must be paid for with real work, especially in serving the community.

"At the age of 80 years, the green report from the public through the Kompas Research and Development survey is the most beautiful gift and proof of the maturity of the National Police in serving the nation," said Abah Anton in Bandung, Wednesday (1/7).

The Kompas Research and Development Survey for the period April 2026 recorded an increase in public confidence in the National Police to 82.4 percent. This figure increased compared to 2025 which was at 76.2 percent.

Abah Anton assessed that the increase showed that cultural reform and improvement of public services in the Polri body were beginning to be felt by the community.

However, he emphasized that the National Police must maintain closeness with the people. For Abah Anton, the main strength of the police is not only in authority, but in public trust.

"The National Police must always be close to the community so that it is ingrained in the hearts of the people as a more humane protector. The National Police must really uphold justice for the people, not the interests of certain people who are momentary," he said.

Abah Anton also reminded the importance of institutional loyalty to the state and government in maintaining national stability.

On the other hand, he highlighted the service satisfaction index which still needs to be improved. Based on the same survey, the positive image of the National Police rose from 64.4 percent to 71.5 percent, while service satisfaction rose from 65.1 percent to 67.6 percent.

According to Abah Anton, the service figure which is still in the range of 60 percent shows that the Polri's work is not yet complete.

"The National Police must be more responsive, more friendly, and more polite. Don't put forward the attitude of being an arrogant ruler, because in the field this attitude is still often heard," he said.

The Kompas Research and Development Survey also noted that the professionalism score of police services rose from 7.76 in October 2025 to 8.37 in April 2026. The assessment comes from the direct experience of 1,200 respondents throughout Indonesia.

Abah Anton hopes that the improved survey results will not make the National Police complacent. He asked the police to use it as an incentive to strengthen integrity, improve services, and continue to be present as an institution that gives people a sense of security.

"Hopefully the results of this survey will not make the police ranks complacent, but rather become a driving force to continue to improve, maintain integrity, and serve selflessly," he said.
