JAKARTA - Political analyst Boni Hargens considers the results of the Kompas Research and Development survey which shows that 80.6 percent of the public assess the performance of the National Police as getting better is an empirical evidence that the institutional reform of the police under the leadership of the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo is running and felt by the community.
According to Boni, the increase in public assessment reflects the success of the transformation carried out by the National Police, both in terms of operational performance and organizational culture improvement through the PRESISI concept.
"Increased public confidence in the National Police is a prerequisite for strengthening democracy and the success of government implementation," Boni said in a statement in Jakarta, Saturday, June 27.
Boni assessed that Listyo Sigit's leadership succeeded in encouraging internal reforms that not only focused on improving the professionalism of the apparatus, but also strengthening transparency, public services, and a more humanistic approach.
According to him, the achievement of the survey has a broader meaning than just improving the image of the institution.
"Without public trust in the security apparatus, a healthy democratic foundation will be difficult to achieve consistently and sustainably," he said.
In the midst of the dynamics of various demonstrations that have occurred recently, Boni assessed that the stability of the country depends on the balance between the authority of the government and public confidence in state institutions.
"Government stability can only be maintained when there is a balance between state authority and the participation and trust of civil society in institutions," he said.
He also placed the National Police as one of the important pillars in supporting government stability. According to him, the ability of the National Police to maintain security, manage social dynamics, and enforce the law professionally is an important factor in maintaining public confidence in the country.
"I see the National Police not only as an instrument of law enforcement, but as a strategic actor in the Indonesian political and government ecosystem. The success of the National Police in building public trust has implications for the stability of democracy and the legitimacy of government as a whole," said Boni.
The Kompas Research and Development Survey conducted on April 9-18, 2026 showed that 80.6 percent of respondents assessed the performance of the National Police as getting better. Public confidence in the National Police also increased to 82.4 percent, up from 76.2 percent in 2025.
