MEDAN - The Medan Special Class I Immigration Office, North Sumatra, deported eight Chinese nationals for being proven to have abused residence permits working at a hotel.

"Every foreign citizen who is in the territory of Indonesia must comply with immigration provisions, including using visas and residence permits according to the purpose of their arrival," said Head of the Special Class I Immigration Office of TPI Medan Uray Avian in Medan, Thursday, June 11, reported by ANTARA.

Uray said the eight Chinese citizens worked as photographers, editors, and make-up artists at an event at one of Medan's hotels.

According to him, the eight foreigners were deported through the Kualanamu International Airport on Tuesday (9/6) with the destination to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He explained that the disclosure of the case began with an immigration surveillance operation carried out by Medan Immigration on May 31, 2026. Surveillance was carried out on an activity that brought a number of foreign workers (TKA) to support the activities in the creative industry.

"During the inspection at the location, officers found eight Chinese citizens who were directly involved in the organization of the activity," he said.

From the results of the examination, the foreign citizens played various technical roles, namely CW, GH and YP as make-up artists, LK and YX as editors, while YX, YZ, and XJ served as photographers in the activity.

"They are known to use a C18 index visit visa, a B1 index visit visa, and a D2 index limited residence permit," he said.

Medan Immigration said based on the results of the initial examination, the foreign citizens were suspected of violating the provisions of Article 122 letter a of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration regarding the misuse of residence permits, and were given Immigration Administrative Action in the form of deportation and denial based on Article 75 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 75 paragraph (2) letters a and f of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

"The supervision carried out by Immigration is a commitment to maintaining order, legal certainty, and state sovereignty through the implementation of the selective policy principle," said Uray.
