Commission II of the DPR wants the local government not to fire PPPK due to the increase in unemployment figures.

Member of Commission II of the House of Representatives Eka Widodo asked the local government (Pemda) not to terminate the employment relationship with the Government Employee with a Work Agreement (PPPK). Because according to him, this step has the potential to increase the number of unemployed in Indonesia.

The PKB politician, who is familiarly called Edo, also emphasized that the PPPK is an important part of the state apparatus that is at the forefront of public services and carries out various government programs in the region.

"PPPK is a servant of the people who are the front line in running the government. Their lives and welfare must be guaranteed by the state. Therefore, the regional government should not take the step of dismissal which will actually create new social and economic problems," Edo told reporters, Wednesday, June 10.

Edo assessed that the existence of PPPK is very vital, especially for basic service sectors such as education, health, extension, and various other public services that are in direct contact with the community.

To ensure the sustainability of the work and welfare of PPPK, Edo expressed his support for the payment of PPPK salaries, especially teachers and health workers (nakes), to be borne by the State Budget (APBN), not to be charged to the Regional Budget (APBD).

"If the salaries of PPPK, especially teachers and health workers, are borne by the state budget, then the APBD can be more focused on improving the quality of public services and regional development. This will be a more equitable solution for regions with limited fiscal capacity," he said.

Edo's statement is also in line with the results of the discussion in the Public Hearing (RDPU) of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives on June 8, 2026 which was attended by the Minister of Home Affairs, regional governments, and various stakeholders concerned. In the forum, a number of strategic issues regarding the sustainability of ASN and PPPK management became a common concern.

Edo emphasized that there were several important things that must be immediately followed up by the government. First, the settlement of the issue of honoraria workers, which has been fought for years, must not be stopped just because of the regional fiscal problem.

"Don't let the settlement of honorers that have been fought for years stop just because of fiscal issues. The state must not allow the servants of the nation to be in uncertainty again," he said.

Second, the PPPK and Part-Time PPPK that have been appointed must obtain guarantees of job sustainability and certainty of employment status. Third, Edo encourages the government to immediately issue a Government Regulation (PP) on ASN Management as a legal umbrella that provides career certainty, welfare, social protection, and a clearer future for PPPK.

"Teachers, health workers, extension workers, and other basic service workers must be seen as investments in human development that determine the quality of the nation's future," he concluded.
