JAKARTA - The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) opened the option of using school canteens and public kitchens for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) Program. This means that not all areas have to build new kitchens.

Head of BGN Nanik S. Deyang said the approach was considered for efficiency and to adjust to field conditions.

According to Nanik, the construction of a new kitchen is not always appropriate, especially in remote areas with few beneficiaries.

"I've been to one of the islands in North Lombok. There are only 19 students, but there is already a canteen," said Nanik after the inauguration at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday, June 8.

He also gave an example of an island region such as Raja Ampat. If there is already a communal kitchen, the facility can be used as an alternative.

"If there is already a communal kitchen in a certain area, it can be an alternative. It doesn't have to be a new kitchen," he said.

Nanik said BGN is also trying to reduce dependence on the state budget. In addition to utilizing available facilities, BGN is exploring cooperation with investors and possible grants.

Currently, the number of MBG operational kitchens has reached 27,877 units based on virtual account data. BGN decided to hold off opening new kitchens to reorganize the distribution of kitchens in the area.

The arrangement also includes beneficiaries. Nanik said the program would be directed to children and groups that really need it.

BGN is now holding off on opening a new kitchen while re-mapping the needs of the area, so that the implementation of MBG is not only fast, but also targeted.
