JAKARTA - The Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) Songkhla, Thailand held a socialization for Indonesian citizens (WNI) regarding Disaster Mitigation and Contingency Plans on Wednesday.
This socialization is carried out in order to protect Indonesian citizens by building awareness of Indonesian citizens regarding what steps need to be taken when emergency situations or conditions occur, such as natural disasters, wars/conflicts, or riots.
"Every contingency plan is prepared by the Representative of the Republic of Indonesia abroad as an operational guide in responding to situations or emergencies," said the Consul of the Republic of Indonesia for Songkhla Winardi H Lucky, launching the statement of KRI Songkla (5/6).
Awareness of the importance of disaster mitigation preparations for Indonesian citizens stems from the massive flooding in southern Thailand that occurred less than a year ago on November 22-30, 2025.
The socialization also featured a local disaster expert as a resource person, Poramet Paladsi, who is also active in providing voluntary rescue assistance to residents and foreigners during the large flood disaster in Hat Yai City, Songkhla Province in southern Thailand.
He emphasized the importance of classifying vulnerable areas, safe areas and the steps that must be taken by Indonesian citizens during extreme flood disasters.
"It is important to secure yourself by evacuating early to make it easier for officers to help you, rather than staying silent until the situation (disaster) gets worse and help cannot enter because the officers' access to the location is broken," he explained.
The activity was also filled with socialization regarding the Contingency Plan for KRI Songkhla which was determined through the Decree of the Consul of RI Songkhla No. 0015/KEP.KEPPRI/I/2026.
Participants in the socialization were given an understanding of the material regulated in the Contingency Plan, including the formation of the KRI Songkhla Emergency Response Task Force, the system of setting the alert level by KRI Songkhla in an emergency situation, and the flow of evacuation and/or relocation by KRI Songkhla when necessary.
Through the socialization of the KRI Songkhla Contingency Plan, it is hoped that the resilience of Indonesian citizens will be built in the face of emergency situations and that good coordination will be established between KRI Songkhla and Indonesian citizens in responding to emergency situations.
In emergency situations, Indonesian citizens can contact the KRI Songkhla Hotline via WhatsApp at +66818978350.
