JAKARTA - The University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) invites the academic community to take a more active role in maintaining the environment through the UMJ MemBumi 2026 activity held at the UMJ Green Park, Friday, June 5, 2026.

Carrying the spirit of sustainability in the perspective of Islam, this activity presents environmental talkshow as well as real actions of greening and waste management in the campus environment.

The talk show featured the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture of UMJ Sularno and the Head of the NGO Program Air Talks, Primadita Rahma Ekida, as the main speakers. Both of them highlighted the importance of building environmental awareness from an early age in the midst of various ecological challenges faced by urban communities.

In his presentation entitled "Environmental Health and the Future of Sustainable Campuses", Sularno assessed that there are still many people who consider greening and the existence of plants as trivial. In fact, according to him, the impact of the reduction of green space is now increasingly felt through the decline in environmental and air quality.

"The next generation has the task of raising awareness of the importance of environmental maintenance and tree planting," he said.

He explained that human life cannot be separated from the agricultural sector and the existence of plants. In fact, about 95 percent of human life depends on agricultural results so that concern for plants and trees must be a common concern.

According to Sularno, UMJ has a responsibility to be a pioneer in maintaining environmental sustainability. Therefore, campus development must go hand in hand with efforts to preserve nature.

"There is no need to wait to do big things. Start with simple steps to protect the environment," he said.

Meanwhile, Primadita Rahma Ekida raised the theme * Urban Air Crisis: A Real Threat to the Young Generation *. He highlighted the deteriorating air quality due to various human activities, including the practice of burning garbage which is still widely practiced by the community.

According to him, awareness of maintaining the environment is part of human responsibility as khalifah on earth. Therefore, concern for the environment must be realized through real actions in daily life.

"Garbage burning is still a serious problem in various areas, including South Tangerang. Many people burn garbage without knowing the dangerous content of the material being burned," he explained.

He added that air is a basic need that cannot be chosen like food. Everyone breathes the same air so air quality is a health issue that must be given serious attention.

The commitment to environmental preservation in UMJ MemBumi 2026 is not only realized through discussions. After the talkshow, participants together planted 3,650 tree seedlings, launched a selective waste management program and Temporary Disposal Site (TPS), and spread ecoenzyme to the river streams around the campus.

This activity has received support from a number of strategic partners, including the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia, Wahana Honda, Bicara Udara, PT Bumi Resik Nusantara, and OMG. Through this collaboration, UMJ hopes that the campus movement to care for the environment can continue to grow and become an example for the community in realizing a healthier and sustainable environment.
