Fire in Savana Propok Bukit Mount Rinjani Area Was Put Out

JAKARTA - The Mount Rinjani National Park Office (TNGR) stated that the forest and land fires (karhutla) in the Propok Savana Hill, the Mount Rinjani Resort Aikmel area, East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara Province (NTB) were successfully extinguished.

"Based on the latest visual monitoring from a safe distance on Wednesday afternoon, no smoke or open fire points were visible in the former fire area, we confirmed that the situation was completely safe and under control," said Head of the Administrative Affairs Sub-Section of the TNGR Astekita Ardi Center in East Lombok, Wednesday, June 3, reported by ANTARA.

He said that in the effort to extinguish it maratonally, it involved a joint team of Forest and Land Fire Control (Kahutla), TNGR Office officers, and community elements.

"The joint officers managed to stop the spread of the fire, which had devoured dry savannah vegetation since Tuesday (2/6) afternoon," he said.

The fire was first detected by the field monitoring system on Tuesday (2/6), around 11.00 Wita. The location of the fire initially appeared in the Savana Propok 2 area, specifically at coordinates 50 446438 E and 9067279 S.

Due to the strong wind gusts and the expanse of grass that began to dry up into the dry season, the fire quickly spread to burn part of the vegetation in the Savana Propok 1 area.

In response to the emergency situation, the Savana Propok Management Group immediately moved quickly by deploying at least 15 personnel to the scene at 13.00 Wita.

Although the team had carried out intensive extinguishing until 18.00 Wita, the difficult terrain and the limitations of the tools made the embers could not be fully controlled on the first night.

"The terrain and the darkness of the night were a major obstacle for the officers in the field," he said.

He said that as of Tuesday (2/6), at 19.00 Wita, the fire was still actively monitored in several parts of the affected area.

Considering that the conditions have entered the evening with a limited level of lighting and considering the safety factor of the personnel on duty, the blackout was temporarily stopped and continued on Wednesday morning.

"Entering Wednesday morning, the handling scenario is running very effectively. The joint team is moving again to the location to conduct a total search to ensure that there are no more hidden embers," he said.
