Waisak 2026, Vice President invites Buddhists to be pioneers of peace

JAKARTA - Vice President (Wapres) of the Republic of Indonesia Gibran Rakabuming Raka invited Buddhists to be pioneers of peace and strengthen tolerance to maintain unity in the midst of the development challenges faced by Indonesia.

In the commemoration of Vesak Day 2570 BE at Borobudur, Magelang, Sunday, May 31, quoted by Antara, Gibran conveyed his congratulations to all Buddhists in Indonesia.

He invited Buddhists to continue strengthening the spirit of tolerance and maintaining cross-religious brotherhood which is an important foundation for the stability and progress of the nation.

Gibran also expressed his appreciation to Buddhists for their contribution to maintaining social harmony and developing various humanitarian activities in various regions.

According to him, the involvement of Buddhists in the fields of education, health, and community empowerment has provided real benefits for national development and harmonious social life.

He emphasized that the celebration of Vesak at Borobudur was not only a religious momentum, but also reflected Indonesia's commitment to upholding peace and respecting diversity.

According to Gibran, unity and peace are the main capital needed by Indonesia to continue development in the midst of evolving dynamics and challenges.

Therefore, he invited Buddhists to play an active role in maintaining harmony among religious people and strengthening social cohesion in their respective environments.

He assessed that the noble values of Buddhism, such as love, compassion, and wisdom, remain relevant in the face of increasingly complex life issues.

Gibran also invited all elements of society to jointly bequeath a more harmonious, just, prosperous, and dignified Indonesia for future generations.
