JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government claims that there are no longer any areas with the category of severe RW slums in the capital. Currently, the areas that are still included in the slum category are said to only remain in the mild to moderate level.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Housing and Settlement Area Service (DPRKP) Kelik Indriyanto said the number of slum RW in Jakarta has also decreased significantly, from 445 areas to 211 areas.
"Alhamdulillah there is no severe slum, that is what we are grateful for. So there are only light slums, very light slums and there are still," said Kelik at the DPRKP DKI office, Central Jakarta, Friday, May 22.
Even though there are still slums, the DKI Provincial Government ensures that the current handling has not led to the relocation of residents to apartments. The government is said to still prioritize the improvement of the residential environment and basic facilities for residents.
Kelik said that the handling was carried out through a community action plan (CAP) approach by mapping the main needs of the community before the implementation of physical development was carried out.
"We first draw what the community needs, then we make it up to us, then there is the physical implementation. And that is not only physical, there is also social and economic," said Kelik.
According to him, the handling of slums in the future will no longer be carried out in general at the RW level, but will target directly the most problematic points to the RT level based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
"So we will try to go directly to the RT that BPS has said is slum, we will go there," he said.
Kelik said the government would direct various handling programs to points that were still declared slums, both through the APBD and corporate social responsibility support.
"So we really focus on the location that is still conveyed by the DKI BPS slum, later our programs, whether it's the APBD, whatever, CSR, or whatever it can be directed there for the completion of the slum RW in DKI Jakarta," he continued.
Furthermore, the DKI Provincial Government also targets handling 50 slum RWs next year. The location is said to be spread across five administrative city areas of Jakarta.
"We will see the development later, because this is still before the RW came out yesterday, yes, it was proposed earlier. We will propose again later, where it is really necessary to say that we will handle it first," he added.
