Bulungan Regent Ensures Services Continue to Run Even Though WFH is Applied After the Fire

TANJUNG SELOR - After the fire that hit the Bulungan Regent's Office, North Kalimantan (Kaltara) on Wednesday night. The Regency Government (Pemkab) implemented a work from home or work from home (WFH) system until Friday, May 22.

This policy is specifically applied to government activities in the area of the regent's office that are affected by the fire. However, public services are ensured to continue to run by utilizing facilities in each local government.

The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Bulungan, Risdianto, said that the local government is currently preparing a temporary service scheme while waiting for the police to complete the process of processing the crime scene (TKP).

"Public services continue as usual. For the time being, we are using facilities in our respective regional units," said Risdianto, Thursday (21/5/2026).

He explained that a number of administrative services and government activities were temporarily transferred to the offices of the regional device organizations (OPD) during the post-fire handling process.

He revealed that the fire, which occurred at around 21.30 Wita, resulted in a number of rooms on the upper floor of the regent's office being affected. These include the Bulungan Regent's room, the Regional Secretary's room, as well as several secretariat rooms.

"Those affected are the Regent's room, the Secretary of State's room and several heads of departments, but not all," he said.

Risdianto said that in addition to building damage, the local government is also still identifying documents and assets that may be affected by the fire.

"The data collection process has not been carried out thoroughly because the police will still carry out crime scene investigation at the scene of the incident," said Risdianto.

"There are several documents that we are still identifying to determine which ones are affected," he continued.

When the fire occurred, the office was empty and there was no employee activity. Initial information was received after security officers reported a fire in the main building area of the Bulungan Regent's Office.

The extinguishing process was carried out by firefighters together with the joint apparatus and lasted until around 00.00 Wita before the cooling process continued.

"Based on the information we received, there was no activity at the office at that time," he said.

Until now, the cause of the fire is still awaiting the results of the police investigation. The area of the building that was on fire was also still equipped with security lines for the purpose of investigation and crime scene investigation.

Risdianto hopes that services to the public will continue to run normally even though some of the temporary government activities have been transferred to other local governments.

"We are waiting for the results of the crime scene investigation from the police regarding the cause of this fire," he said.
