JAKARTA - The Ministry of Culture has proposed revitalizing more than 3,500 traditional houses in Indonesia. The proposal was discussed by Minister of Culture Fadli Zon together with Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning Maruarar Sirait at the Ministry of PKP Office, Jakarta, Monday (18/5).
The meeting also discussed housing assistance for cultural actors, artists, and custodians of cultural heritage sites who need home repairs.
Fadli said the program was in line with President Prabowo Subianto's priority to help people's housing, especially the desil 1 to 4 group or low-income people.
"We will propose recipients related to cultural actors, artists in need, to caretakers who maintain cultural heritage sites throughout Indonesia," said Fadli.
The assistance will be directed through the Self-Help Housing Stimulus Assistance or BSPS program. This program provides assistance for home repairs for residents who meet the criteria.
Fadli also asked the Ministry of PKP to revive the revitalization program for traditional houses. According to Fadli, many traditional houses in Indonesia need attention and rescue.
"The number of indigenous houses in Indonesia from the data we have is more than 3,500 indigenous houses. Maybe the number is more, but what is recorded by us is 3,500 indigenous houses that may need attention and rescue," he said.
In the meeting, the Ministry of PKP explained the BSPS assistance scheme which will target 3,053 indigenous people and art practitioners. The amount of assistance is differentiated according to region.
For North Maluku and Papua, the assistance is IDR 25 million. For remote areas, the assistance is IDR 40 million. Meanwhile, other areas receive IDR 20 million in assistance.
The implementation of the program will also involve assistants. Assistants are tasked with helping the community's welfare, while technical assistants prepare the minimum requirements that must be met.
The Ministry of Culture stated that it would focus on two tracks. First, the physical revitalization of traditional houses. Second, housing assistance for artists and cultural practitioners.
This program is important because traditional houses are not just old buildings. In many areas, traditional houses are still the center of identity, local knowledge, and community traditions. Without care, many of them are threatened to be damaged or lost.
